LAVender can provide surgical methods of castration for various large animal species. Most commonly we provide services for horses and donkeys, cattle, sheep, goats, swine and even llamas and alpacas.
Most large animal castrations are done with the animals well aware of what is going on, so we recommend if you call for an appointment, your facilities can manage the restraint of these animals. Equine patients tend to be layed down for their castration, so being able to handle your stallion or jack comes in handy when the anesthesia medications are being administered.
Appropriate pain management and sedation is administered when needed, and after care is provided to the owners. Most species are given a dose of tetanus anti-toxin right before the procedure occurs for added protection. After care can consist of pain therapy, such as NSAID treatments of Banamine or Bute, or even antibiotics.
